Planning Together For Children’ Programme

When the court is asked to decide arrangements for a child, Cafcass may recommend that parents take part in the Planning Together for Children programme.

In some cases, the court itself may order both parents to attend. This usually happens if Cafcass advises the court that the programme would be beneficial. Where attendance is directed by the court, it is a legal requirement.

The programme is delivered by Action for Children, in partnership with other organisations. Its purpose is to support separated parents in making constructive decisions about their child’s future. It combines online learning with group workshops and encourages parents to develop a practical parenting plan.

However, the programme is not appropriate in every situation. If you have experienced domestic abuse, including coercive or controlling behaviour, or if there are safeguarding concerns, Planning Together for Children may not be suitable. If you are unsure, you should raise this with your Cafcass Family Court Adviser before taking part
