Non-Molestation Orders

A Non-Molestation Order is a type of injunction issued by the civil courts to protect individuals from abuse, harassment, or intimidation. It is designed to prevent an abuser - whether a partner, former partner, or family member - from contacting you, approaching you, or engaging in threatening or harmful behaviour.
Applying for a Non-Molestation Order can provide immediate protection. The order sets out specific actions that the other person must not take. Breaching the order is a criminal offence, and the police have the power to arrest the offender. Serious breaches can result in prosecution and even imprisonment.
A Non-Molestation Order commonly prohibits an abuser from:
- Using or threatening violence towards you or your children.
- Attempting to contact you or your children (except through solicitors or another approved method, where specified).
- Harassing, intimidating, or pestering you or your children.
- Visiting certain locations, such as your home, workplace, or your children’s school.
This type of order is an important legal safeguard for victims of domestic abuse, offering both protection and a clear legal consequence if the order is ignored.
